Advice pls – wp for main site and blog

Hi I’m new to all this. I want to run wordpress on my main domain and I also want to set up a subfolder to run a blog. Do I need to install 2 copies of wordpress – one in the root folder and another copy in the subfolder? Sorry if this is a daft question but I’m learning.
