  • I upgraded my website to wordpress 3.4 and it’s caused an enormous amount of damage to my site. Half of my posts weren’t accessible on the site and 404d, and pages 3 and 4 of my posts on my website 404d as well.

I backed up before upgrading (thank god I had a gut feeling there’d be headaches) using PressBackup. After restoring, I managed to finally be able see my other posts that were missing before, but there’s a still a problem. Pages 3 and 4 still don’t work ie http://www.winvenue.com/page/3/. Interestingly all the posts that disappeared were from page 3 and page 4.

I’m not sure why I got all these issues, and it’s really annoying because this is an active website will hundreds of readers. I’d really like the get this fixed, any help is really appreciated. Thanks

Also weird, I don’t know if this might help but even though I did a database restore, wordpress admin still says I’m using 3.4..

No doubt you are updated to WP 3.4, and it is good. So, what your WP admin dashboard shows is correct.

    About your missing posts:
    1. If you have backed up your DB, there is nothing to worry about. You can restore the posts.
    2. You can try this:

    -Deactivate plugins one by one.
-Switch back to Twentyeleven, the default WP theme and see if the posts reappear.

I don’t know why it says it’s running 3.4 though, I restored my database which was using the old version. And frankly, I don’t want 3.4 anymore it’s caused so many headaches. I just want to go back.

The posts aren’t missing anymore. The database restore fixed that. The problem now is that pages http://www.winvenue.com/page/3/ and /4/ don’t work. Only the first 2 do.

I’ve tried deactivating every plugin on my website, and it still doesn’t work…

Did you try reverting to the default theme? When you feed the database of the old version, the new version converts it with necessary changes to work with the new version.

Ok is there a way to downgrade the entire thing back to the other version? I hate 3.4 right now and want nothing to do with it.

Also, yes I tried reverting to the default theme. It’s not much help though because the default theme puts so many of the posts on the front page there’s only 2 pages anyways.

Can I just reupload the older version of wordpress without the configuration file or something to downgrade?

Did you find all your posts now? Just tell me. I will tell you how to get everything as you like it.

Yes now all my posts work (you can check out most of them on the popular posts widget on the sidebar). It’s the pages are not working now.

If you look when you’re on page 1 or 2 at the page title (browser tab title), it says 1/2 and 2/2 accordingly so something somewhere is not recognizing the other pages.

Everything will be OK. Now activate your theme and see if every thing is OK. Then activate plugins ONE BY ONE and see any of the plugins cause problems.

I tried disabling every plugin on the site and the issue persists.

Might be an .htaccess problem, maybe try reupdating your permalinks in settings.

Yep, tried that. Also tried replacing the .htaccess with a backed up version I know worked. I’m thinking this is where the issue lies:

If you look when you’re on page 1 or 2 at the page title (browser tab title), it says 1/2 and 2/2 accordingly so something somewhere is not recognizing the other pages.

Prior to updating, when I would navigate the pages of my website, I noticed that the title would actually show 3/2 and 4/2 on the title accordingly. I’m thinking it’s something to do with the theme perhaps.

Yes. That shows the problem is not with WordPress. And your WordPress problem is resolved.

What you can do to further solve the problem is to upload a fresh copy of your theme. OK?

I don’t care that the problem is “not with wordpress”. I’m using wordpress, and updating it caused something in my theme that was working before, to not work at all.

Uploading a fresh copy of the theme wouldn’t do anything either.

Just passing the blame to the template doesn’t solve the issue. Does wordpress not support theming? As soon as I use a theme other than default, I then lose all support and get told it’s an issue with my theme and not wordpress??

I welcome instructions for downgrading at this point…

This is the WordPress support forums. As the name suggest, this is where we resolve WordPress issues. If you need theme-specific help, it’s best to get in touch with the person/company that created it.
