You want to google for “wordpress bbpress”, that should get you going. At least as far as combining wp users and bbpress users.
I’m currently hooking the two up for a customer’s site. Maybe it’s my apache/php setup, but I require extra work to let the bbpress users actually log into wp — it involves a bit of code to update the proper wordpress tables.
Also, I can’t go ahead and include the wordpress wp-config.php file. This might be a plugin issue on my side. So this doesn’t work for me. Yet.
(small update: I’ve disabled most plugins, but the error logs tell me that bbpress and wordpress try to define the same functions. In other words: forget function integration. Bummer.)
@dille: thanks for sharing your info.
I tried the same (and other) instructions: doesn’t work for me either.
Would be very nice if bb-press would be available as a plugin or something. I don’t like editing the “core” wp-files – you have to redo a lot manually stuff after a WP upgrade.
I’ll be keeping a close eye on the bb-press site…
@ryanfitzer: Wow! Looks very nice indeed. I do get an error though:
Sorry!
We couldn’t retrieve a list of forums.
I’ll have a look if I can find out what’s causing this… If I can get this thing to work, that would be perfect. Integration A+ 🙂
Vanilla is a plugin forum for WP that integrates easily:

I’ve installed RS-discuss and so far it’s doing a wonderful job! I’ve also added Dutch translations for those who need ’em. You can pick ‘m up at: http://www.sargant.com/blog/wordpress-plugins/rs-discuss/#i18n
But its not happening a lot at RS Discuss – is it? Seems like the most of the others got a more active developer spirit.
Sad though – cause its the most beautifull forum crafted s for wordpress.
Vanilla is not a WP PLugin 😛
Google search for WP Forum. This is moving forward faster then XD Forum in terms of development cycle.
I wish bbpress was a plugin as well…
