• Hello, When I use the Paste from Word option in WordPress, it doesn’t save the formatting. The formatting looks fine when I paste it into the box, but then when I click insert all the formatting is removed.

How do I make it so when I click insert, it saves the formatting from word?
    Thanks!

  • DO not paste from any rich text editor or for that matter copy any text from a website and paste…use only plain text editors such as Notepad.

so do you mean the “Paste from Word” option does not work when editing pages?

The formatting in Word is not the same as HTML — the “paste from Word” intentionally removes the formatting in Word because it creates a huge mess with the code. So, no, you cannot use Word to format web pages. You can use any plain text editor if you want to draft before pasting into WP.

oh ok, I was under the impression that the “Paste from Word” option under the Visual section of editing a page was to copy the Formatting such as bold/text/size/font directly from word. That’s what a Lynda WordPress video tutorial uses it for.

To answer your original question, yes, this removes the ‘hidden characters’ associated with the displayed formatting of the rich text being pasted (but not always as there are too many variables). To re-iterate, it is best not to paste rich text into the editor. A more important point is that rich text could contain hidden maliscious code.

oh ok, I wasn’t copying text from a website, I was trying to create my own text/formatting in Word then copying it over.
