I installed Duplicator on a someone’s site so I could make a backup copy before making changes to their site. I discovered afterwards that their site host disabled a number of features (for security reasons) that won’t allow file management by WordPress plugins. So Duplicator can never get past the Connection Information screen even though I have given it the correct login information.

I cannot see Duplicator in the list of Installed Plug-ins to remove it nor in the Tools menu.

If I try to install other plugins, the Connection Information screen appears so now I’m stuck!

The site’s host will NOT allow plug-ins like Duplicator to work for security reasons (also tried WP-TWIN) so I need to remove it.

    HELP Please!!

    Thanks.

  • Hey verityweb,

Just browse out to the plugins directory under wp-content and delete the folder duplicator. That should remove it from the system.

    Hope that helps!

H-m-m-m, can you believe there’s not duplicator directory in the plugins directory yet the problem clearly exists.

    Hey vertiyweb,

Not 100% sure what you mean by ‘Connection Information Screen’ are you referring to the installer? Maybe you can submit a support ticket with a screen shoot of your issue. I’m not quite sure what your seeing…

    Thanks

Here’s a screen shot of the ‘Connection Information Screen’

Sorry, that screen shot revealed too much info. Here’s another screen shot with sensitive info removed.

    Hey verityweb,

Ah, I see what you saying. Have you been able to install/uninstall any other plugins? That screen really has nothing to do with the plugin. If the duplicator directory is not present then by definition it is not ‘not installed’. So there is nothing for you to remove. It looks like you may have permissions on your plugins directory.

Checkout this thread as it will explain why that screen shows up:

If the host has a restriction on various plugins then you might have to contact them with this issue.

    Hope this helps!

Okay, gotcha! I understand now. In other words, this problem obviously existed BEFORE I ever attempted to install Duplicator. Thus, I didn’t break anything by trying to install it.

I’m just going to leave it alone since the host obviously doesn’t trust WordPress security and I don’t want to do anything to compromise their setup and anger them.

    Thanks again!

    Hey vertiyweb,

Sounds good. I hope things get worked out…

    Take care
