• Tonight my blog all of a sudden had theme problems. My side bar moved, the background in the main post area went away. I would understand this if I had been messing with the theme, but I didn’t.

I’ve had a few problems with this particular theme, so I decided to try change the theme. The same thing happened when I replaced the theme with a different one.

    I’m not sure what’s going on. There are problems both with IE and Mozilla. Hopefully someone can help. My page is;

    Thanks for the help!

Take care of these errors and it will likely fix it. In the few cases it doesn’t, it makes it much easier to troubleshoot:

I believe there is something wrong in this post: “Around the World Socks”.
I had a similar problem (today actually). The tagging had gotten messed up. If you are not into that kind of stuff, you might be able to fix the problem by copying out the text of that post to a word processor, erasing everything in that post, and putting it back together.

Thank you! It was the Around the World Socks post. I erased it and put it back and it fixed it. Thank you so much!

    🙂 glad it worked.

    Cute site, vlnjodie! 🙂

i have the same problem, but i dont found any extra <div> tag :/
The W3C validator dont say any problem… http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fconclavedigital.host.sk%2F

    My blog is http://conclavedigital.host.sk

umm it appears to move down only in internet explorer… in firefox all appears to be ok.

Oh no! It’s happening again! This time headers are getting messed up on the sidebar. It doesn’t happen in IE, but it does in mozilla. I didn’t touch anything in the theme. I know there are still a bunch of weird tags that aren’t closed right, but I don’t know how to get to them. Is it a post that’s messed up again?

I never had this problem with WordPress 1.5, is this something wierd with 2.0.4?

If you view your recent posts on their own individual page, you can quickly find out if one of the posts is causing the problem. I.E. if the sidebar works right when only one post is being displayed, then that post is not the problem.

I have the same problem at my site: http://www.michaelowen-online.com/archive.

I have tried everything to no avail, and it is beginning to drive me crazy. I have tried adding overflow:hidden; to the obar, but it doesn’t work.

For some strange reason this problem only appears in IE when the last page is reached (i.e when no “previous page” link is available”)

Also something strange happens to some posts (I have checked the format of the posts, and they are ok) an example here: http://www.michaelowen-online.com/archive/?cat=1

    Anyone got any ideas?

Usually, when a sidebar drops on a page (especially when you’re viewing it through IE – because of IE’s lovely box-model issues) it’s because you’re either missing a closing tag somewhere, or because you’ve got something that’s too big within the content div. For example: a picture who’s width is larger than the div enclosing it (this *includes* margins and padding); or a long string, like a long URL or words that are missing spaces.

The first thing you shoudl do is validate your page – the validator will catch your missing (or non-semantic) code, and you can easily fix that kind of error if it’s there. If it’s not, then you can be sur eit’s something that’s too big, either in the content div or in the sidebar.

If it “suddenly” happened, look at the last thing you posted. The culprit is most likely there.
