    This helped: http://www.webologist.co.uk/web-design/how-to-add-widget-areas-to-your-wordpress-theme

Buuut: Now I need to go into the code to adjust the size of the slider. Not exactly convenient.

    Solenyi:

Thanks for trying out Total Slider, and for your feedback!

We believe using widget areas is the “right” way to incorporate Total Slider into a website, as in the best way to do it while using WordPress’ core functions. We also recognize that adding widget areas might be an inconvenience to developers, so we’re certainly open to hearing more opinions and adding new ways to integrate Total Slider into your site if the community calls for it.

As for adjusting the size of the slider: this is by design and not likely to change. Theming in Total Slider is built primarily with designers and developers in mind, so changing your slide group’s appearance will mean getting your hands a bit dirty.

However, as Total Slider’s theme architecture matures, we hope to release a number of pre-made themes in sizes and shapes that will fit a variety of websites (and hope others do the same). This will make customizing Total Slider a lot easier for people new to web development and WordPress, as it will simply require uploading your theme of choice to the right spot in your WordPress directory.

We’re happy to help with any specific questions you have though. It looks like you know what you’re doing with your specific problem (adjusting the size of the slider) but if you need further guidance we would be more than happy to help.

    All the best,

    Chris

I was able to successfully “insert” Total Slider within the content area of a specific page using a plugin called Widgets on Page. This permits you to add a widget area using a shortcode, and have that widget contain the Total Slider. Hope this helps!

    Paul-

That’s a great tip, and a nice way to make this work until we build in widget area support.

As a general note, we are looking further into shortcodes, as they have been our most requested feature. It is likely that they will appear in an upcoming incarnation of Total Slider (perhaps as soon as 1.1, alongside vastly improved custom theme features).

    Thanks!

(Just a note, when I said “until we build in widget area support,” I meant “until we build in shortcode support” which is on our radar for an upcoming release!)

    Hi all-

We’ve just released Total Slider version 1.0.3, which adds support for shortcodes! We’re targeting them to advanced users for the moment, and planning to build more robust support in the next major release.

You can find more information at our documentation page on Github.

Thanks for your patience, and let us know what you think!
