  • It uses standard WP update mechanism, your wp-content/plugins folder need to be owned by the user that is running your web server – usually apache or httpd

Yup, that folder is owned by the user. Still is unable to update to premium. Is this an issue of Multi-Press style setup?

Is this a multisite install? – wpmu?
The manual steps to update are:
    1. Backup your wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-event-calendar folder
    2. Backup your database
    3. Download premium from then.ly and unzip the archive
    4. Delete wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-event-calendar from your server
    5. Upload all-in-one-event-calendar folder that you downloaded from then.ly to wp-content/plugins folder on your server
    6. Upload themes-ai1ec from inside all-in-one-event-calendar folder that you downloaded from then.ly to wp-content/ on your server
That’s it. Access your website and it should be using the premium version.
