    Hello WP community,

So i jut tried to install Jetpack 1.3 and ran into some trouble, here is what happens:
    – my WP install is 3.3.2, with multisite on, 2 sites running, domain mapping, and a few plugins. Hosted at 1and1…. yes, they are notoriously short on memory, I suspect it might have something to do with it.

Jetpack installs on wordpress ok, then I try to activate it:
    – on main site of my WP install, it does not work: the page loads, but tells me that :”Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.
    error:1408F06B:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:bad decompression”

    – also, when the page with that error message loads, the WP tool bar at the top of the page is missing (just blank space in its place)

    – and when I try to reach :
[mysite url]/wp-admin/network/plugins.php , no page loads, I only get an error message :
“Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 29360128) (tried to allocate 311296 bytes) in /homepages/40/d329613672/htdocs/wp-admin/plugins.php on line 360”

    – on the second site, Jetpack connects right away. no error whatsoever.

    Any idea anyone?

Following up on the above issue:

When I try to reach [mysite url]/wp-admin/network/plugin-editor.php,
I get a blank page with only :
“Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 29622272) (tried to allocate 16 bytes) in /homepages/40/d329613672/htdocs/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 285

    More on this…

the “bad decompression” sounded to me like a lack of space/memory, so I started de-activating plugins (renaming folders on the server from Filezilla). I have about 10 plugins installed, some of which I will replace with Jetpack.

After I deactivated 6 of them and tried again, I got Jetpack to connect.

So it seems like it’s an issue with the host server in terms of memory limits. 1and1 strikes again…

Note to forum admins: it could be useful to close this thread but keep it visible; as I was searching the forums for clues I had found no one with the error “1408F06B”, so this could help the next person facing the same issue.
