1&1 Hosting – Error Establishing a Database Connection

    This morning I awoke to find that our company website was solid white with the message “ERROR ESTABLISHING A DATABASE CONNECTION” affixed to the upper left corner. Cursory Google search found numerous instances where this had been experienced, but in every thread I read through, these were new installs of WordPress or had an issue with a Mac, neither of which is the case here. We’ve not made any changes at all recently and there’s no reason why our wp-config.php file would have been altered in any way.

    I’ve looked at the file itself and nothing seems out of place. The password matches with our password and everything appears as would be expected. Reaction from 1&1 is best described as aloof yet casually motivated to explore it when the opportunity arises, but with no outward sense of urgency.

    If there are threads that are open on this issue, the WordPress website’s search function didn’t seem to want to want to work, so my apologies if this is repetitive of existing/known issues. Any assistance or guidance/direction would be IMMENSELY APPRECIATED!

    We’ve not made any changes at all recently and there’s no reason why our wp-config.php file would have been altered in any way.

    It’s possible your host provider 1&1 may have changed something mysql DB-wise. Try giving them a call and review with them the database settings in your wp-config.php file.

    thanks. Are there any other threads that may address this issue, particularly those that are unique to 1&1? The “Search” box on the WordPress site doesn’t seem to want to work. It just hangs. Thanks.

    There may be but when you get that error it’s either a typo in your wp-config.php file or something changed on the mysql server.

    Either one should be easy for any host to verify.
