• Hi Folks.

My theme (Aesthete) is no longer being supported and it is incompatible with WordPress 3.3.2, so any changes I make to the site wreak havoc on it.

Is there any way to salvage it, or do I have to pick a new theme and re-build?

Is it typical for a theme to only have a useful life of 3 or 4 years ?

    Thanks.

    Dean.

  • Unless you want to get into some heavy theme re-coding, you will need to chose another theme.

That is what I suspected. Since I am a neophyte, heavy theme re-coding is not an option.

Any thoughts on how to pick a theme that will be around for the long haul?

    I am considering:

    State of Mind
    Victoriana
    Modern-Vintage
    Quietly Simple
    Gravel.

    Thanks again.

    Dean.

ps. I fixed the link to my site above.

I usually look at a changelog for a theme, how many updates has it seen? How long has it been getting updated for?

Then off to the developers website, look at the same type of info.

Try to google around a bit about the theme. How are others faring with it? Are problems being resolved?

Is the author active either on the WP support forums, or on their own?

If the theme is newer, does the dev have other themes they have been supporting.

It’s a bit of due dilligence. But that being said, just because someone has been developing themes for 10 years doesn’t mean they won’t stop tomorrow.

    Thank you for the tips.

    I appreciate it.
