Art Magazine and Artist gallery with store – the best way?

Hi folks!
I would develop a wordpress-running site that would be an art-magazine, but it should have a sort of online-gallery for artists, with their own artworks, with an annual subscription. The site will have 3 sections: magazine, artworks gallery shop, and a gadget shop..

For the magazine section I think that’s ok with the basic features of wordpress, and for the gadget store there will be a person that will manage the store, so isn’t a problem..
but how can I manage the artists and their artworks? custom post types? Other codex help?
Or do you know a plugin that can do a similar work?

The best way would be that the artist can load its own artworks by himself, once he paid the subscription..
