Importing a WP blog to a hosted blog with wordpress.com. (5 posts)

I would like to export a WP website that I did for old school friends and that I am hosting with dreamhost to a blog hosted with wordpress.com.

I am running WP 2.0.3, and I cannot find any option other than a database backup to export the articles. You have an option on the wp.com side to import posts from a "WordPress export file (WordPress eXtended RSS (WXR) file)", but I have no idea how to get that file...

Can anyone please explain to me (or point to the necessary plugin) to obtain this sort of file?

    Thanks,
    Roberto deOC.

Hrmm, WXR is a new one on me too. You might ask over at the .COM forums http://wordpress.com/forums/ and find out how you'd use that critter.

Wonder if that's something coming with WP 2.1 or 2.0.4?

Thanks for the prompt answer! I did not know the forums were separated. I will also post this question over there...
It is probably something of a future release. I am surprised to see some functionalities on the .COM side that WP 2.0.3 does not has yet...

    Here's the solution:
I downloaded the nightly build (2.1-alpha2), and under the manage tab you can now export your WordPress posts and comments in a XML format.
Under the same tab you find an import option in WP.COM. It imported all posts and comments, and the only thing that I still have to update are the images (it links them to the old blog...).
    That is it!

Far out. That's been a long time coming! Thanks for the update.
