   I know how to turn them off..but every post still has a comment option which goes to a page that says "comments closed"

   I would like to completely eliminate the comment link? Any ideas? Thanks!

   Find and delete/comment out this line in the index.php:
   <?php comments_popup_link(__('Comments (0)'), __('Comments (1)'), __('Comments (%)')); ?>
