• Is there a recommended syntax for changing the alt text of images in the media library.

For some unknown reason, what ever text is entered results in no change, and by default wordpress displays the description as the alt text

    suggestion appreciated

  • There’s no “syntax” involved. Just ensure that you complete the Alternative Text field for each image.

    Hello Esmi

    thanks for your reply
For some unknown reason whatever entered as the Alternate Text field does not change
Does the location of the image matter?

    thanks

No, but you have to change the images ON the page 🙂 Changing media library won’t change existing posts.

    Hello Ipstenu
What happens if the alts on the posts are empty?
What is being used as default?
I disabled a SEO friendly images plugin that used “image name” and “post title” as alt tag attribute
but whatever is entered now as alt tag does not change
    thanks

Null (blank) alt attributes on images are perfectly acceptable – especially if they’re purely decorative images.
