[Plugin: Relevanssi – A Better Search] Beginner with no clue where to start!

    I was told that this plugin could help me but I am extremely overwhelmed. I went to the knowledge base but it seems to be very specific, and geared towards people who already know how to use the plugin. I tried reading some of the items in the Knowledge base, but it doesn’t help when you have no clue what a hook is or where the code is even supposed to go. (the search form? the search results page? what goes where?)

    Can someone explain how to use this plugin to me or point me in the right direction to some instructions?

    Using Relevanssi is actually this simple:

    1. Install plugin.
    2. Build index.
    3. Done.

    If you need something more, check out the plugin settings page – it’s probably there.

    If you still need something more, read the plugin FAQ.

    If that doesn’t cover what you want, then it’s time to check out the knowledge base on the Relevanssi site or ask here.

    Here’s where you lost me:

    2. Build index.

    what does that mean?

    Let’s start at the beginning. Is this plugin supposed to replace the wordpress search bar? Do I need to replace the php code where the search bar is in order to make it work?

    All I am trying to do is limit my search to specific pages on my site

    I am sure once I figure out the basics first, I can figure out how to do that. But there is nothing that tells you the basics. After installing the plugin, what is the next step to adding this search on my site?

    Did you notice that when you install Relevanssi, you get an alert box that reminds you to build the index? Just go to the Relevanssi settings page and click the button that says “BUILD THE INDEX”.

    That’s all. Nothing else needs to be done.
