You can do this, but it depends on the server that your WordPress is installed on.
basicly the .gif format copyright was updated changing what was allowed to be done with the file format and in turn this ability had to be filtered out in new versions of apache.
But tbh, if its a thumbnail anyway it would be best practise to not have it animated as why would someone want to view the same image again just because it was larger?
Thanks for the reply, but I’m not sure what you mean.
If you go to http://www.snakesonablog.com/….. and find a stickdeath, you can see what I want to do. He has a pic of the first frame of the animation in the post. Then when you click on the pic, the animation pops up in a new window, and plays. The animation is a gif file.

BTW….I use IE…..old school you know
stikguy
did you notice after you upload the image, you can click on it and get a little menu? Click on “Thumbnail” (top option I believe) to turn that off.
Handy,
Thanks
DUH….well I’m only partly an idiot. I’ve got the animation to load, but it continually plays.(not what I want it to do). Also I’m getting some kind of degradation
in it as well….may have something to do with the transfer.
I suspect I need to make the thumbnail a link that will open a popup where the gif will play.I guess I’m looking for a video/flash/gif player plugin that will preserve the quality as well as play it in a popup when you click the image.
There’s about a million to pick from in the plugin section. Anybody have one they really like?
Just looking for a little guidance.
thanks,
Sitkguy
