I get the following error message:

Fatal error: Class ‘Genesis_Admin_Basic’ not found in /home/content/56/7751156/html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/genesis-simple-sidebars/includes/admin.php on line 14

All the Fatal Error posts I have read says to delete the plugin folder in FTP. While I’ve found the FTP file, I’m concerned that I will lose the content in the plugin if I delete the file. Sorry. I’m not very familiar with how all this works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had that problem, too. When I installed the latest version of Genesis (1.8.0), the problem was fixed. Give that a try. In order to temporarily get rid of the fatal error, I renamed the plugin folder. After I updated Genesis, then I named the plugin back to its original name. Hope that helps!

Thanks cindyjw! I just ran updates and was staring at that same Fatal Error. Fortunately I found your post, did the temporary rename and updated Genesis to 1.8.0 and ta-da! Worked perfectly! Thanks!!!

So glad to know I was able to help someone else. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this guys. I had the same problem and resolved it by following your advice.

I had already re-named the sidebar folder which had deactivated the plugin. I then updated to the latest WordPress version first, then Genesis 1.8. then renamed the plugin folder name and finally re-activated the plugin. I didn’t loose any of the sidebar information.

I CANNOT EVEN LOG IN, let alone re-name the plugins folder. Each time I try to login, I get the page with the Fatal Error message. I deleted cookies and browser history. Does anyone have any advice?

Do you have ftp-access to your web space? The info you need is most probable in the welcoming mail you received from your hosting provider when registering your domain & hosting plan.

I do not know if we have FTP access, our designer never forwarded that information to us. Is there any place that has a tutorial or where info could be sent to us? Thanks for responding.

You will be able to find the Genesis folder where your website is hosted. This could be GoDaddy, Hostmonster, etc. If you don’t know that info, ask your web designer where your website is hosted.

Thank you this worked. I renamed plugin folder, was able to log into back end, upgraded to newest genesis version then activated plugins one by one. All are ok.

Updated a client’s plugins, and POOF! I now have the same issue… no access to the admin panel. I renamed the plugin folder to no avail. Does anyone know the best way to install the latest Genesis update via FTP?

Thanks in advance for your help!

adonya, did you get your problem worked out yet? If not, let me know and I will be happy to help.

Also, I now ALWAYS backup my clients’ websites BEFORE I do ANY updates. I’ve tried different backup plugins for WordPress, but finally found one that has always worked and I can set it up on a schedule, too, so I don’t have to think about it. Then when I need to do any updates, I just do a quick manual update. Even on one of my sites that is HUGE, it’s very quick and reliable.

If anyone is interested, you can get find it here: http://designitdigital.com/recommends/backup.

    Thank-you

had the same issue and was lost
