    Hello,
I’m relatively new to WordPress and PHP, and have started using the Graphene theme. I have made a page that has several child pages and was wondering how i change the way child page content is laid out on the parent? At the moment it is showing the name of each child page, plus some of its text content, I would prefer it to just show the child page name and a brief description of the page, not as much of the child pages content as it can fit into the box.

My Site not currently live so unfortunately I cannot link you.
If this has been answered elsewhere a link to that would be great as i couldn’t find it.

Go to Graphene Options >> General Options >> Child Page Listings and in the drop-down menu for “Child page listings” and make sure you have chosen “Show listing” — I think you’ve done that.

Then, for each page, use the “Custom Excerpt” feature to write a brief description of the page. That should then show up on the child page listings.

    Not tested; YMMV

Thanks for your reply, regarding the first part yes the “Show Listing” option was selected.
However I failed to find the “Custom Excerpt feature”, I tried editing my child pages but couldn’t seem to spot it. Is it a built in feature to wordpress/graphene or is it a plugin i need to add?

I’m sorry, I made a mistake. You are talking about pages, and custom excerpts are only available for posts.

Of course, you can always disable showing child page info on a page, and just add the link and description yourself. More work, but you get exactly what you want.
