hi,
is there a possibility to have an advanced search functionality in wordpress? i am thinking of a search page allowing for a complex search with different criteria, i.e. a date range and author specification in combination with words from the title and/or the full text of the entry.
probably one needs extra entries in the database; is there a plugin which does this?
if not, do you know of any other opensource weblog/cms system with this feature?

I just started working on a plugin like that last night. I've got it here: http://www.headzoo.com/avsearch.zip
Right now it only works if you have the Sidebar Widgets plugin installed. Contact me using my site's contact form, http://www.headzoo.com/contact, and let me know what kinds of things you'd want in a plugin like this.

hey, lloks great at first sight! I am looking fr the same... but what made me originally search, is the wish/neccesity to search for categoryies and tag combinations within search...
... so any plugin doing this will be highly revered by me!

But it is based on 1.5.2, if u are good in php and interested to convert it to 2.0.x, I can pass u the code.
Hey Lester (GamerZ) - Im a big fan of your work, you have done some great plugins for WP! Did anyone contact you regarding the development of your advanced search, it looks great!!
This seems like such an obvious plug-in I'm suprised that I have not come across much that is any good so far as 'advanced searches' go - adding keywords to posts is not really an option for most clients.
I came across this - http://vapourtrails.ca/wp-plugins but I like the look of yours better!!
Anyone wanna take this project up - I wish I know more php!

Regarding the contutto.com Advanced Search plugin (http://www.zirona.com/software/wordpress-advanced-search/) - it definitely seems to be what I need, but I was wondering if anyone's had any troubles getting it to display categories?
