how to upload .htaccess file in yahoo hosting

I am having a terrible time trying to get my permalinks to work after having moved my wp files to my root directory in Yahoo webhosting. I am missing the .htaccess file which I think is what is causing the problem. Yahoo hosting won’t let me upload the .htacces. I have loaded it with the name 1.htaccess and then tried renaming it, but the file manager won’t let me do that either. I have also tried putting it on there with Filezilla, still the same problem. Has anyone else run into this?
