My form at nssl.nl/sign-up has spontaneously stopped working. When I’m logged into WordPress I can complete the form just fine, but when I’m logged out I get a nearly blank page titled ‘WordPress error’ which says only ‘Security check’.

A few days ago the form worked just fine, and I haven’t changed anything in terms of plug-ins since then. Right now I’ve upgraded to the most recent versions of both WordPress and the plugin, but that didn’t solve the problem.

I’m now going to try to make a new version of the form and see if it has the same problem, but if anyone has any thoughts in the meantime please let me know.

It seems to have been fixed! All I did was ‘duplicate’ the form and then used the duplicate. At first it didn’t seem to have fixed it, but I think that might have been because of my chaching-plugin (old cache). Now it works fine.

However: I have no idea why it stopped working, and don’t know if it’ll stop working again. Does anyone know what could have caused this? I feel an uncomfortable state of paranoia setting in 🙂

Apparently it has just stopped working again! The same problem as yesterday 🙁 I think I missed quite a few sign-ups because of it, too bad!

I’ll look for an alternative for the moment, please let me know if a solution comes up, or whether I need to supply more information.

Add a link to your form and I’ll take a look.

Thanks Matthew! I have removed the form from nssl.nl/signup as it was having problems. However, I’ve made a private page and put the form on there. The URL is nssl.nl/signuptest.

If you have the time, please have a look. However: as before, it now seems to be working fine again :S.

Also: if you manage to reliably solve my problem I’ll definitely buy the Pro-version of your plug-in. I’ve been looking for alternatives and so far have not found anything that is as complete (redirect & e-mail confirmation, for one) as your Visual Form Builder.

However, the current issues are of course a major letdown. If there is any more information you could possibly need, please let me know. Here’s a list of all other plug-ins that are currently activated in my installation:
    W3 Total Cache
    – jQuery Collapse-O-Matic
    – Shortcodes Ultimate
    – Show Private
    – Twitter Facebook Social Share
    – Twitter Tracker
    – WP-Table Reloaded

None of these have been installed recently, exept for W3 Total Cache. However: the problems did not start right after installation of that plugin – I installed it on the 16th of February and on the 17th someone succesfully filled out the form.

Using a caching plugin may affect you because I’m using a nonce and it may be valid when the cache is primed but invalid shortly after 24 hours. At that point, the nonce from the cache doesn’t match.

This is just a guess, but there may be some correlation. In W3C, you can set a page to not cache. Try adding the page or pages with your forms in that setting and see if you still run into trouble.

    (@frankvancaspel)

You might be right! That would explain why I didn’t experience any problems with the form while being logged on, as W3 didn’t serve me the cached pages then. Also: the form on /signuptest has stopped working somewhere today, but after I cleared the cache it worked again!

I’ve now added /signuptest/ to the list of pages never to be cached in W3, and will see if the form continues to operate for the next 24 hours. If it does I’ll be very happy 🙂

Hmm, this is pretty strange. I’ve made two pages, both containing the form:

    /signuptest
    /signuptest2

I’ve set W3 Total cache so that /signuptest is not cached, but signuptest2 is. I expected /signuptest2 to stop working after some time, while /signuptest should keep working. It’s now been 48 hours, however, and both of them are still working. That’s nice, but now I’m still not sure that the cache was the problem…

Same problem here and we were ’bout to open these pages today….

It doesn’t matter if I’m logged in or not. Same error. WordPress->Error. Security Check. A quick solution would be nice

oh, and i’m not using any cache plugin

Update from my side: form continues to work, but I’m still unsure what caused the problem. Both my non-cached version on nssl.nl/signuptest and the cached-version on nssl.nl/testsignup2 continue to work, so caching really doens’t seem to be the problem…

we had to release the page with broken form today, so my link above does not work at the moment. i’ll give a new link when it’s officially open

OK, site is now public and form is still not working. Here is the link to the problem form http://www.ekokosket.fi/?page_id=16

I tried to open Franks links, so that I could do some comparison if we happen to have something in common that could cause problems, but I failed to open them.

I really would appreciate this problem to be solved somehow.

    Cheers,
    A

I checked Franks form and I can’t say if there is something similar. I started to think that could it be that this problem occured to me after update of Visual Form Builder?

The error messages aren’t as verbose as they should be. I’ll update these messages for the next update to see exactly where it fails.

In the meantime, you can go into the source and search for ‘Security Check’ and replace each with a unique phrase to see where it’s failing. Report back here with the line number of where it dies and I’ll investigate.
