• Because of my domain registrar’s requirements, I had to reset my dns. When I did so, the main site and subdomain eventually came back fine. However, two other subdomains are unreachable. My host says I need to make dns settings for them, too. I can do that, but I just wanted to understand why that is now necessary when it wasn’t necessary before I reset the dns? There was no setting for these two subdomains on my registrar’s portal. They were created with Multisite and they worked fine before. I thought Apache/WP managed the subdomains on a name basis? I just want to understand why I need a dns now when I didn’t have one before. Thanks.

Depends on what you did when you reset the DNS. If doing that wiped out subdomains (that is you had some named and some wildcard) that could do it.

Remember, DNS says ‘foo.domain.com is on computer XYZ’

Computer XYZ’s apache install says ‘That’s run out of /home/natcolley/public_html’

public_html (where WP is) says “Oh you mean this code! Here!”

So all three have to work for this to run 🙂
