Hostgator has said they wont be able to run my site coz apparently it consume too many resources.
I tried BlueHost. Paid for a years hosting. 8 hours and none of my support queries has been answered. Can't live with a support like that.
I want recommendations for a good decent host who can handle a website with moderate traffic.

I get mine from http://www.hiya-host.com . It's pretty good, but they are talking about shutting it down.
This might be unrelated, but microsoft is giving away free domains, but you have to use their hosting service. I haven't tried it, but the site is http://officelive.microsoft.com/
If it's from MS then it's on an IIS server running ASP... which means WP won't run on it.

actually someone posted an article which was on digg.com which talked abt getting control of the domain coz it is registered in your name and you just have to contact the domain registrar... ;)

Take a look at places like http://www.webhostingtalk.com and http://www.webhostmagazine.com. You don't mention what your requirements are so its hard to say but here are ones that are highly recommended.

There are tons of hosts that you guys have listed, but I can't believe you haven't mentioned dreamhost!
Dreamhost is the best host hands down. I recently switched from my old host to them. I looked at all the hosts you have listed here when I was looking around and found dreamhost to be the best for what you get.

In terms of space + bandwidth the other hosts don't even come close!
as i said CPanel! well. i am now on RoutHost.com. No idea how good they would turn out to be. I have been on ASO, HostGator and BlueHost. And I have been on some local indian guys... That was a bad experience. :)

heh. the question is... who would be able to consume 1000 gig of bandwidth a month without mantaining a site which consumes too much system resources.
and i have already experienced problems at 2 hosts with this problem.
good for hosting image galleries. but not database intensive sites.
also... dreamhost... does not give me cpanel. they would have been my first choice if they could let me restore my cpanel based backup. :)

I use dot5hosting.com $3.95/month 24-month sign on. I've been having issues with them but I think it's on my end. Customer support answers my problems in 30 mins or less. Live chat is helpful.
I usually supply my clients with hosting from RTShosting.com. Never had a complaint from any of them. Personally, I use premiumwebdesign.com - a little more expensive, but the support is absolutely *stunning* and well worth the cost. There have been things I needed that weren't provided to me before (like once, I needed Shell access but didn't have it) I asked - and within *minutes* it was given to me at no extra charge. Both companies provide cPanel, MySQL, PHP and all that good stuff.
(Just for the record, I'm not affiliated with either company, except as a client.)

Just for an opposing opinion, I've personally had much better success with Site5 than my prior host, uptime has been great, support has been reasonably good (given cost, I don't ask for much!), and price for feature it's extremely competitive.
I was actually on DH for a few weeks, bailed because of some of the issues that WP users started running into (CPU usage limits, etc.) and the lack of decent CP, and seeming lack of interest on improving certain problems/issues (they do have a "vote for improvements" system, but the things that I was asking about had be 'in the queue to fix' for a year and a half and still hadn't been dealt with...).
But that's me, and my experience. I do recommend DH and Site5 to people -- they are where my search for a price-for-feature competitive host ended.

DH fixed a lot of things concerning the MySQL issues people were having. I don't know when you tried their hosting, but I joined them earlier this year. I was using ipowerweb.com before, who uses vdeck which is a different type of CPanel thing.
Dreamhost web based interface takes some getting used to if you are familar with Cpanel or vdeck, but you can do everything you need to with their interface. Just as easy once you get the hang of where things are.

While I don't know if they are the "best" Dreamhost is an excellent shared host provider. Site5 also has an overall good rep but lately they have made some changes that has affected their service levels. Look at the host discussion sites and see for yourself.
I for one always go with a host that provides a customer support forum. Not just one of those helpdesk scripts. Not that I use it all that often but its invaluable when I do.

I lease my own server. I got fed up with support issues. Now I only have myself to blame. ;)
Until the datacenter gives you headaches. That's when you lease your own rack. :)
