Any way to ensure that good comments aren’t getting blocked?

Authentication with a password is pass or fail, just like a Gmail, Facebook, or Twitter account, except in this case there is no username, and the password is copy and paste. In most browsers the reader can click the back button to try again if there is a problem, and their comment is saved in the browser cache temporarily.

I do understand your concern, and I will have a better solution. Check back at http://www.toddlahman.com for more information in a few months.
