[Plugin: Custom Post Template] menu highlighting and pagination

hello,
a strange behaviour. i am using wp 3.1.4 and canvas theme from woo-themes.
i installed the plugin and works good.

i created a template (which is a duplicate of a page template actually) and set the name of the template etc and make it work as a portfolio gallery, which pulls the items from a spesific category. no problem. i had to do it within a custom post template not a page because of the site structure / ease of use anyway.

first problem is: this custom post type template is in the same menu with the same settings and same as the other post types, and a children of the parent item as the other items in that menu.added from custom menu and with the same css code. what the strange thing is: only this item cannot be highlighted! actually cannot get the class .current_page_item

another problem is pagination: when i set i.e show 10 items, the default pagination from the theme comes and shows up, but the link does not work..

all other children items works perfectly. but this item via custom post template..

any ideas?
