• Suddently my blog renders as a blank page. Looking at the admin dashboard, I can see that posts are still there. I tried to change the theme, but I get a message that the theme is broken and I should choose another. However, I cannot choose another theme because nothing on the presentation screen works.

Yesterday I was trying to upload an image and got an error about the permissions not being writable in the blog/wp-content/uploads directory, so I changed those around some. Could that have caused this? After I checked the permissions, it was still working yesterday.

    I changed those around some
and we have some ideas, but who knows, maybe they don’t help 🙂

I changed them all to 777, which made no difference, so I changed them back to what they were before. I also tried creating an uploads directory on the server in the appropriate spot, which didn’t help with the image upload either.

However, the blog was still functioning and posts were still appearing after I did that. today they are not.

    1. You have to make writable the wp-content directory (that’s what the program asks: the “parent directory”; the rest is done by WP)
    2. Are you sure you didn’t change, alter anything else? What exactly do you mean by “cannot choose another theme because nothing on the presentation screen works”? What doesn’t work?
    3. Is it possible that your host made some update/upgrade o their software? (it happens more often than you’d think…)

If all of your themese are ‘broken’ have you tried reinstalling the themes folder, or uploading an entirely new theme? This way we can see if it’s just the themes or something else gone wrong.

    the wp-content directory is writable.

Now the wp-login screen is a complete blank, too! I can’t even get to the nonfunctioning dashboard to attempt installing another theme. (I tried to do that earlier on my own, but there were no working links and no operable change theme options.)

If it would do any good for you have the url? I have used all the various tools in the Web Developer Toolbar and looked at view source (it’s blank) in a effort to get a clue about what the problem is but no joy.

This situation is getting desperate. I had the hosting company support people rebuild some tables on the server. Now I have a partially working admin area, still no available links on the theme category so can’t change themes. But the blog itself is still blank.

If I reinstall everything am I going to lose my current settings and posts?

Okay. I reinstalled an all new download, followed the directions about backups and the config file. Ran the updater. Still a blank index.php page and still no links on the Admin Presentation screen allowing me to choose a theme. HELP!
