image width according to proportions

    Hi all,
    I am thinking about a theme I’d like to design, but first it is important to understand isf i can do the following:

    is it possible to set a specific width (so auto height) to post images according to its proportions?

    practically I’m looking for a function that set AAA pixels of width to vertical and square images and BBB pixels of width to landscape (horizontal) ones.
    (where AAA will be also the text width and BBB something like 100-200 px more)

    is it achievable?
