Rename custom post types with many posts and save associated posts

    I have a website thats been in development for a few months now. There are 5 or so custom post types that have close to 50 posts in each type. Now, the client wants to rename some of these post names slightly. The problem is, when I rename a post type I lose my posts associated with that type.

    Whats the best way to rename a custom post type and retain all the posts?
