Simple news site in WP

    Hi to all!

    I have to make a simple news site, containing minimal horizontal menu in header, box containing latest headline and big illustration, few columns on the right side (containing older news and such) and some footer.

    I’ve been using plain PHP&MySQL&Javascript for some time but now I’ve decided it’s finally time for me to switch to some contemporary web developing tools, like WP.

    I now have just few days to make this simple CMS news site using WordPress.

    I am currently reading http://themeshaper.com/wordpress-themes-templates-tutorial/ tutorial but I am not sure it will teach me how to make a news site.

    Any pointers are more than welcome.

    Are you planning on using the Thematic framework? Only that’s quite a bit “extra” to get your head around for your first theme. I’d suggest starting with Theme Development and perhaps playing with a non-framework theme initially – such as Toolbox or Starkers.
