• Hello,

Could someone explain how I remove all left and right padding in the main part of a TwentyEleven themed site? I’ve created a child theme.

    I’d like
    – the ‘menu-menu-container’ to butt up against the left edge of the primary area,
    – the entry-content to butt up against the left edge of the menu-menu-container area, and
    – the entry-content to extend to the right edge of the primary area

I’ve searched for days for something that explains this. I’d have thought it was a fairly simple thing to do, but I’m pulling my hair out.

    Many thanks.

  • Try using Firefox with the Firebug add-on for this kind of CSS work.

Yes, I have firebug. What items am I meant to change the padding attributes to? Thanks.

That’s what Firebug is for – to help you identify the CSS you need to change.

OK, so maybe I need some help explaining what Firebug is telling me.

I’ve tried overriding padding properties on primary, .entry-content, .widget-area and about a hundred other things and it hasn’t worked.

    Can you help or not?

I’m sorry but it is beyond the scope of these forums to teach basic CSS. Try asking on a general CSS forum.

Is it beyond the scope of this forum to help with modifying the wordpress default theme? There are dozens of threads here asking about removing unnecessary space elsewhere in TwentyEleven.

Maybe someone else will be a little more helpful, or maybe someone can recommend a theme that is a little more flexible/transparent than TwentyEleven.

Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. Create a child theme for your changes.

It is a child theme, as I already said.

    Anybody else?

Plus, i too have been looking for the answer to the posters problem, he wasnt lying when he said its hard to find. If you had just helped him out i wouldnt have to carry on searching instead of coming up with threads like this that are just full of ‘no i wont help you your too stupid for me’. I am angry because i am new to wordpresss and have had many questions about a lot of things and have spent a lot of time searching for answers only to find endless threads that have been replied to by esmi where she hasnt even read the questions correctly, and answered just as she has done here. It wastes my time and other peoples.

@slimsc5: This topic has absolutely nothing to do with your issue. Please stick to your own topics.
