• I opened the demo page: http://sjward.org/jplayer-for-wordpress

The lessig-example-tune started right after “Example single-file players:” started playing automatically and I tried to turn the volume down a little bit.
Mistakenly I tried to move the bar the was the progress bar. First I dragged it near the end, after buffering for a short period it started playing at the position where I let go of the progress bar indicator.
Deciding that now I want to hear it from the beginning I dragged the progress bar indicator back to the beginning.

At that exact moment my browser crashed.
    OS: OSX 10.6.8
    Browser: Chrome Stable 16.0.912.75

Could reproduce this a couple of times. Other browser didn’t do that (Safari 5.1.2, Firefox 9.0.1).

Now I know, that hasn’t got anything to do with the plugin but rather with the browser or my machine. I just wanted to check if anybody else experiences this since no other wordpress mp3 player plugin did that (and I tried a couple of those in the last hour).

  • Yup! I installed this on my site and while using Chrome it crashed the whole browser several times. It happened when I tried to skip ahead in the song. I’m using You appear to be using Google Chrome 16.0.912.75. on MacOSx.

    Thanks!

I have no mac for testing right now but will look into this as soon as I can get on one.

What I have noticed in Chrome on Windows recently is a couple of annoyances that seem to affect any media player that lets chrome play mp3s via html5, this include Chrome’s own built-in media player (the one you’ll see when left-clicking any link to an mp3 file), they’re annoyances rather than crashes, and always recoverable, they’re as follows:

    – The loading bar often doesn’t update fully, showing only a portion of the loaded amount though the whole track has come in. Clicking the slider seems to prompt Chrome to update again.

    – Sliding the position slider (rather than clicking to a new position) more often than not now pauses the audio. It’s recoverable by clicking the slider or by hitting pause then play.

I’m sure this started recently, but seeing as chrome likes it’s stealth updates i can’t say for sure when or which version of chrome, just that I don’t think there’s anything I can do about it, and you’ll see identical behaviour in Chrome’s built-in media player.
