I upgraded this evening, and now my visual editor won’t work. The formatting buttons are gone, and I don’t know what’s wrong or how to fix it. Here’s a picture of what I see:
    Broken Visual Editor

I can write posts if I do it in the html editor, but I don’t know html well enough to do that permanently. I like and need the visual editor!

    Please help!

Can someone please help me? I don’t know what to do, but I know there has to be a way to fix this. (And hopefully reinstalling WP isn’t the only way.)

Try deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems. Also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder if you have one. The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old.

Next try switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems. If you can’t log in to change themes, you can remove the theme folders via FTP so the only one is twentyeleven. That will force your site to use it.

    Thank you for your response!

I don’t think I have an mu-plugins folder. Where would it be if I did?

Yesterday I did the resetting the plugins folder via FTP. Do I still need to try disabling them all then reactivating them one by one? (When you say one by one, do you mean, only one running at a time, or just check my Visual Editor before reactivating a new one?)
