Link Together Custom Post type tags

    I am a bit of a WP noob and having trouble figuring through the docs on how to achieve something: perhaps someone can steer me in the right direction.

    I am attempting to create a portfolio page, and have created a custom post type, etc to generate thumbnails, title and tag to link to each project. What I want is for the tags to:

    1) filter the thumbnails with similar tags
    2) list all the tags associated with this custom post type separately.

    Any advice would be much appreciated!
