• Hi,
I’ve inserted a laerry into a post using shortcode and “include” to add images attached to different posts.

This works in that the gallery is shown in the post but in archives it doesn’t pick up how many images are in the gallery, nor does it allow me to choose on of those images to be the posts “featured image”. This functionality used to work as I’ve done it before.

As an example, my new post: http://www.realepicurean.com/2011/12/10-really-easy-last-minute-christmas-recipe-ideas/

Gallery shown in post but if you head to the archives it won’t show a “this gallery contains X photos”. If I set a featured image, it shows “This gallery contains 1 photo” – the one I set as the featured image, which is then also shown under a “gallery” tab of the media editor.

On a previous post where I’ve done this, all photos added via the shortcode then show up in the media editor under “gallery” – I presume this is therefore where the problem lies?

I just changed my post format to “Standard” instead of “Gallery” which actually shows the gallery on the front page, but this is still kind of bypassing the issue (and not even all of it!).

I think a post’s featured image has to be uploaded to that post, don’t know it will use one thats attached to another post or page entry.

The archive issue may be related in that it can’t show meta for a featured image from another post..? Although I’m a bit confussed, I thought you said you couldn’t assign a featued image.

nor does it allow me to choose on of those images to be the posts “featured image”

    Please clairify.

    Hi,
I can “add” an image in the normal way but when I add a gallery of “unattached” images it doesn’t detect that they are in use on the current post. It used to, I think (but can’t test) with the previous WordPress version.

The only way I know attach images to a gallery is to upload all the images to the post or page where the gallery is to be displayed. Otherwise you have to assign each unattached image by it’s attachment id, and include it in the shortcode.

    [gallery id="123"]

with “123” being the id for a page with images to be displayed as a gallery.

    Or:

    comma separated attachment IDs,

    [gallery include="23,39,45"]

will show only the images from these attachments.
