Do something simple

Dear all,
I have just downloaded from the website the wordpress and installed it also.

I would like to do something simple, you will find uploaded a photo of my old site here

It was a simple web page,
in the left side I had my links about the projects I am managing and when I was pressing one one of those links the main area was loading my page (This is a simple frames in html)

I would like to use wordpress for the same
I want to the left the list of my links and when I click one of those to get me to the current page.

Every page contains just test with timestamps(that;s important) some links and sometimes just a picture.

I am not intresting in wordpress blogging abilities but putting some comments to a new sentence I added would be great.

My problem is that wordpress does much more that I want and is hard to convert it to something simpler.

I ahve tried already some new templates but most of them have the navigation bar to the top of the web page and not to the left (where I need my links to be).

Could you please in some simple steps explain me how I can do that in wordpress, which template and some simple steps needed.
