Support » Fixing WordPress » upgrade should be as easy as installation

  • My web host disabled my web account because my sites are using 25% of the server’s RAM, presumably because of some bug in an un-upgraded WordPress blog or one of my other sites that is php-based.

The main reason I never upgraded from 1.5 is that I can’t use a backup file to restore a site. I’ve followed the directions, sought help, but can’t get it working.

So now I’m forced to upgrade, all my sites, including sites I’ve made for other people that I’m kindly hosting on my account, and I am taking the risk of losing all previous blog entries.

I wish installing WordPress hadn’t been so easy, because then I wouldn’t have done it. I think upgrades should be as easy as installs. But that’s me, I’m an ignorant ____.

  • Who is this host?
There will almost certainly be a way of backing up.

It’s not the lack of backup, it’s the difficulty of restoring from backup. I’ve tried and can’t do it. The host offers Fantastico for installing, but Fantastico’s upgrade tool doesn’t work. The host’s response is “yeah, Fantastico is a bit buggy” or something like that.
