bbPress pre 1.x was a sep install
If you look in the plugins directory, it is now 2.x. When 2.0 came out, it became a plugin. Just install like a normal plugin, and good to go!
Also, bbPress plugins pon the website bbPress.org are for the stand alone 1.x version
bbPress plugins found here in the plugin directory are (should) be compatible with the 2.x version
