• I just upgraded to 3.3

My whole left menu has disappeared with the “Settings” etc located.

I have searched through the help forum and found things on installation problems, but most apply to when you install a new theme, not when you upgrade your WP version.

I realize I can access posts, pages, comments etc through the new drop-downs, but I can not access the ‘Settings” for my permalinks setup, or plugins anywhere.

What am I doing wrong. It is almost as if there is a missing toolbar.

Make sure you’ve read the entire Master List post and the New Features in 3.3 Post.

Go to your own install’s about page – http://domain.com/wp-admin/about.php – to see what’s new.

And then make sure you’ve tried…

    – flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.

    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems. Also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder. The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems. If you can’t log in to change themes, you can remove the theme folders via FTP so the only one is twentyeleven. That will force your site to use it.

    – manually upgrading. When all else fails, download a fresh copy of the latest.zip file of 3.3 (top right on this page) to your computer, and use that to copy up. You may need to delete the wp-admin and wp-includes folders on your server. Read the Manual Update directions first!

I may just have to reset the whole blog!

I can not access the menu to let me into all the plugins that are installed (or were originally installed) to de-activate them.

The whole left menu is gone…completely.

All that I can see in the top (drop-down type) menu is the sub-menus for NEW (posts/pages etc), the menu for comments, the menu showing “theme update”…..and that is all.

When I check the “Theme update” page, it only shows that my “plugins are all up to date” but I can not access the “plugins” page to deactivate anything.

I am at a loss here…. Never seen anything like it before. The whole area where the left hand menu should be is just white empty space.

    Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade via wp-admin/upgrade.php

ricjones – Reread what I (and esmi) said. You can reset the plugins without being able to log in 🙂
