[Theme: Twenty Eleven] Manual excerpts, facebook, and a child theme

I’m using 2011 as a child theme and I’m having some trouble with the use of manual excerpts.

The behaviour I would like to see is:

– if I create a manual excerpt for a post, I would like that manual excerpt to show up in the feeds (which it does) and in my sharing with facebook (which it doesn’t). Currently, when I share a post to facebook, I get this horrible blurb, sometimes not even anything related to the post but pulled off sidebar text. I would like for me to be able to control that text, via use of the manual excerpt, and I’m wondering if a) the theme developers are perhaps looking into this and b) if anyone has a possible fix for this that I can drop into my child theme’s functions.php file, for example?
