Bulk upload of avatars in BuddyPress

I have a bunch of files that need to be added as avatars for user profiles in BuddyPress. It doesn´t seem that BuddyPress allows you to configure the folder where avatars are stored and I couldn´t find any way to tell buddyPress the relationship between a given user and his/her corresponding file (I guess BuddyPress just takes the file it finds on the standard url path /avatars/userid/filename-bpfull)

Are you aware of any solution that can (semi)automate the process?
