  • Once again the same problem!

My WP installation has path such like this:
    subdomain.domain.com
and images doesn’t upload. The interesting thing is that in the same domain I have another WP 2.0.2 installation, but with path: domain.com/folder and everything works fine.

I’ve tried to solve issues form posts: 67269 and 65749 and it does’t work. Installing Image Manager and switching off WP’s internal image processing also doesn’t work!

    What’s up?

  • FWIW, I solved my problem by deactivating Image Manager. Then I created a folder elsewhere on my server, to which I loaded my images (completely edited because WP won’t touch the image to make it compatible!).
Then I used WP to “upload” the images from that folder. These are actually just hotlinks in my vernacular, pointing to the image in another location.
So far, the images are staying put. Why I can’t get any version of the upload instructions to work, I don’t know.
    Good luck!

I also found that there’s no error in the server log, anything wrong at all. It seems that there is an error in the script “inline-uploading.php” that doesn’t allow to write images to disk in specific domain syntax: subdomain.domain.com.

    Can anyone help, please!

WP 2.0.2 uses a default path listed under Options / MISC. – in wp-content/uploads I noticed that I didn’t have the folder listed in that directory on the server so I had make one and then set the permissions.

    Hope that helps. Doug

I had similar frustrations, so I found a lead here to a plugin that does the job well. It’s “Filosofo Old-style Upload Version 0.5” by Austin Matzko which does a better job than the default WP utility. In addition to thumbnail generation, it will allow you to browse for uploaded images in a viewer and select the one you wish to “send to editor” (ie: direct into the text box where it can be positioned manually). You can choose to include the thumbnail or a full-sized image in your posts/pages, depending on your need – and you can switch on/off the linking as you wish. You can also browse for images in the viewer.

To be honest, I was on the verge of stripping WP 2.0.2 off my server and opting for something else before I discovered this plugin. It’s not perfect (I’d like to be able to choose by image name or description – useful if you have several different-sized similar images residing in the folder) but better than the built-in WP utility.

    Simply Colin,
I too am near giving up on WordPress, having had similar issues to yours and not much help figuring it out and feeling like I’ve wasted too much time. Interestingly, I am on a mac 0S10-when i go on my husband’s pc using IE- the picture upload works perfectly with NO configuring & I was able to just navigate to his desktop, click a jpg & upload it and drag it right into the post window. So maybe it’s a mac/wordpress thing. I had read that Movable Type was truly mac friendly. And BTW, I set up a Blogger blog and in less than 5 minutes I was posting photos right off my desktop (my mac.)
