Simple to install Spell Checker?

ColdForged Spelling checker – Works a charm 🙂 Works on my 2.0 but as his note says, apparently not on others.

Why not forget about it and just use a personal spellcheck facility in a word processor or your favourite text editor?

This is not true for content editing, certainly in WP admin anyway. And I assume that’s what ibold is talking about here because you’d never want to spell-check your templates, right?. If you create content in (say) MS Word, it doesn’t matter how you mark it up (bold, italic, whatever) because when you copy your content from MS Word (CTRL+A, Ctrl+C) and the paste it into WP (Ctrl+V), all you get is plain text, which is precisely what you want.

So, go right ahead and create your content in MS Word and when you’re finished, just copy into WP.

Personally, I don’t bother with MS Word though. I have used Notetab as a text editor for a long time now and it has a number of spell-checkers available.

Not true. There is no preserved markup of any type when you use the clipboard to copy and paste, unless your target software is aware of MS Word markup.

I can only speak of WP1.5 and I’m assuming WP2 is the same.

pizdin_dim, I was basically saying this, because numerous of posts have been posted here lately.. and MOST were inregards to unclosed FONT tags, DIVS and such, and previously, there was alot of posts about ppls blog’s being screwed up, just because they used something like MSWord, before posting it into the Write Post block.

But please remember though too, that not ALL the people here are “knowledged” at our “level’s” on how to do something specifically.. I’m like you too though, I don’t ever use anything to write an article, I just write the post in the “write post” box. (And seldomly adding special characters.) =)

But either way, I’m just trying to throw out some pointers and stuff.. Do what ya want..it’s not my blog lol! But, I’m sure they’ll be more threads regarding this issue sooner or later..

However though, I still have numerous of posts to edit though, because I had used PLOG before WP and had to manually add them all. And of course, it added alot of crap codes to it then.. I just didn’t get around to fixing them all yet sigh.

Yeha in 2.0.2 all of the HTML markup that appears in word carries over in WP. This sucks. It also happens when you copy and paste test from other sources. When you have writers writing and they don’t know about HTML it takes hours to remove all of the HTML and reformat the text. I posted a comment under “Clear formatting in WYSIWYG editor” and I too was told to use notepad. So the solution to format and spell check is to copy into word, spell check, then copy into notepad, and then into wordpress…NO WAY.

A quick fix is to use Google Toolbar becuase it will spell check everything on the open page. But the HTML is still and issue.

eSnips has figured out a way that you cna copy and paste text into their WYSIWYG editor and it clears that but then allows you to apply HTML to it and give a WYSIWYG.

There has to be a solution.

The TinyMCE has been upgraded in SVN and does include a spell check function, I dont know when it will be ‘released’ though.

With some work (and not too much risk) you could pull a copy from SVN and update the /tinymce/ folder
