posts sometimes get published, sometimes not

    I upgraded to 2.0 a week ago. Right away I had a problem: I would submit a post to publish, and it would… go away. Disappear. Poof! It wasn’t published, it wasn’t in my “saved posts”, nowhere. I’ve started cutting-and-pasting the contents and trying multiple times. Sometimes they do get posted (and I get the “Post published” color bar across the top of the admin panel).

    However, now some of my readers are saying they see multiple copies of my posts! I don’t (XP + Firefox), and I don’t see multiple copies in my database either.

    Does anyone else have this porblem, or any ideas?

    Strange thing… could you possibly provide some information about your server environment? webserver version, mysql version, php version? special configurations? some phpinfo() output?

    Yeah, that would be a good idea. 🙂

    We’re running php 4.3.11 on a linux box with Apache 1.3.33. MySQL is 4.1.11. I don’t think there are any special configs, and I am running a handful of plugins (spam karma, feedburner, countdown, and auto-moderate comments). These never caused any issues with WP 1.5.x.

    Hey Phil (that you?) — make sure you’ve updated all those plugins! Older SK2 versions, for instance, did bad things to wp2.x comments and some other plugins flat out break things.

    If that’s the ordered-list feedburner plugin, you’re probably ok there. I don’t have much experience with the others.

    So.. I’d start by disabling plugins that you can live without temporarily while you find their updates. See if things are better while they’re disabled.

    Handy, yeah, that’s me. 🙂 I updated to SK2 just a little while ago, but maybe I’ll reinstall it. Actually, it’s letting through a lot of splogs, which is ticking me off anyway! Thanks for the tip.

    oh, on the splogs thing. You might want to have a go at the Bad Behavior plugin. Took me from 100s a day to 1 every couple days.

    Granted, I don’t have your volumes… but it (hopefully) can’t hurt to try it: http://www.ioerror.us/software/bad-behavior/

    It’ll run with SK2 or Akismet more or less just fine.
