Using wordpress to make a huge music site with band artist profiles

    I am new to wordpress. I am going to use wordpress for my next site which is going to have profiles of artists/bands.
    Profile will include their info, released stuff, album covers, tracklists.

    For this purpose i have thought of making categories and then a subcategory for each band artist in the main category of bands and artists.

    I want to know is there any useful plugin that exsists for wordpress for this purpose that can make my site more useful? like some profiling plugin or something.

    the site idea sounds cool but your plugin question isn’t clear to me, what are you looking for it to do? Since WP already has the categories/sub-cats built in.

    like so ppl can browse artists by genre , or name, or year and stuff like that.

    you can put a post (Artist Bio) in more than 1 category, example categories:
    Artist Name
    Genre 1
    Genre 2
    Genre 3
    Year Active 1
    Year Active 2

    Or, you can try using the Custom Fields (also built into WP).

    Maybe you want a plugin related to the custom fields, but from the very-little description you gave it sounds like what you can do with regular WP as-is.

    yes but can i make a advance search option so ppl can surge or browse through categories?

    You can browse category archives, built-in feature of WordPress.

    Another thread on this forum today shows how you can limit a search to 1 category (or 3 categories).

    Your questions are not very clear. I can’t tell what you want that is different from regular WP.

    The only way of understanding the wordpress is installing it on your site as a test and play with it for a while untill you find a way to do what you want to do.
    word press is very powerful and simple but you have to read and test alot to dig its potentials.

    yes, you can hire someone. There’s a wordpress professionals newsgroup linked (somewhere) on this site. Also recommended sometimes is the site called Rent-A-Coder

    if you want to learn WP yourself there is plenty of free documentation available under Docs on this site
