    Hi,

I have Pretty Link Lite v. 1.5.0 on a WP 3.2.1 install with 1193 pretty links created.

Today, all of a sudden, it won’t create pretty links anymore. I keep getting the error:

ERROR: This Pretty Link Slug is already taken. Check to make sure it isn’t being used by another pretty link, post, page, category or tag slug. If none of these are true then check to see that this slug isn’t the name of a file in the root folder of your wordpress install.

But none of the above apply. I even check the pretty link I want to create and if I try to access it, it returns a 404. (which is normal, because I don’t have that URL anywhere, neither do I have a folder like the link I’m trying to create).

IT DOES THIS FOR ANY LINK I TRY TO CREATE.

Even if I try something like mysite.com/out/oisfjiwefpowiefj , it still says it’s taken.

IT ONLY WORKS IF I LEAVE IT TO CREATE ITS DEFAULT 3 CHARACTER SLUG

Until now, Pretty Link didn’t populate the slug input by itself. It was blank and I wrote my slug there.
Now, when I click ‘Add New Link’, the slug input field gets automatically pre-populated with a random 3 char slug.
This way it works, but I can’t have custom slugs anymore.

    Ideas? Bug?

    CORRECTION

I see it only fails in the following case:

    I have a slug like this /go/whatever
I have 897 pretty links created with /go/....
If I try anything with /go/, like /go/younameit, it gives the error.

But if I try to create a slug like /refer/whatever, it works. I only have 159 pretty links with the /refer/ slug.

So, this would be weird, but could it have to do with the fact that I have so many links with /go/ ?

I’m also experiencing the same error with 1.6.0

Did you find a solution to this problem?

I would also like help with this, but I think my issue is with specific words that aren’t already in categories, tags, pages, or posts.

As far as I’ve seen, in my case it only happens with /go/… as part of the redirection.

If I use /likes/…, /recommends/… or whateveer, it creates the link. It’s a problem for me because I have several reports “out there” where I already included links using the /go/ format.

I’d like to switch to pretty link from other plugin, but this problem is preventing me from doing it, I hope it’s addressed soon.

@all, I’m going to mark this thread as resolved – in favor of this duplicate thread: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-pretty-link-lite-error-this-pretty-link-slug-is-already-taken-using-the-name-of-attachement?replies=3

I will post updates there instead.
