[resolved] Wrong fonts and sizes in IE, but not in Firefox or Safari (9 posts)

We just did a "bloglift" and added a third column to my wife's blog. We thought everything was fine but now her readers are starting to write, "could you change the font size back to where it was? It's too small."

Funny thing is: we didn't change it at all, but aparently Internet Explorer users are getting a smaller version of Arial. And the blog title is coming up as plain Times with a hyperlink instead of 36 px Georgia italic.

Meanwhile in Firefox and Safari, everything is fine! I use Safari and my wife uses Firefox. So we had no idea that IE was looking different.

    Here's what I did...
I added a left side bar and used the same style tags as the right side bar but gave them their own name. For the middle content area, I moved the left margins so that the copy would stay out of the left side bar area all the way down the page.

Are there any special tags to add to force Explorer to use the right fonts? I'm not sure why the blog all of a sudden doesn't look right in Explorer. Any ideas?

Can we have a link to the blog in question?
It's easier that way to have a look.

I've experienced something like that, when using a Stylesheet with em as the measure of fonts. A newly introduced text affected the style of text later in the produced web page.

Something in your new left sidebar may affect the content area ( later in the flow of the page ).

FYI, the order of the content in my css file is:

    Header
    Left column
    Right column
    Central content

so if I introduced a peculiar element in my left css files, I could see where it affects my right and central columns.

I wonder if it's because I have no ul tags in my left column. All that's there is headers and images with links.

Also, the comment box is not showing up in IE, but it is in Firefox and Safari.

    This is peculiar.

Found the culprit. It was an incorrectly formatted font tag, it was placed outside a td tag. The affiliate did it. Can't believe an affiliate coder did that.

I'm still working on the blog title coming up in Times and a hyperlink line instead of Georgia italic.

And I found that to be a lack of > at the end of some code. Gee, this is like when I have to talk things out in front of people, I solve my own problems.

Next time go to w3c.org and validate. It will let you know about all that stuff. :>)

True, Samboll. I probably should have been a little more patient and did my detective work more slowly.
