• I run a blog dedicated to my Premiership ‘soccer’ club and as well as posting stuff that I believe is relevant, I’d also like to be able to provide links to stories that others might find interesting but I don’t believe is important enough to be included in the main content.

So I’d like to set-up a ‘page’ to do the trick. Now, is it possible to import titles and links to stories to go in the main body of a message for people to click on to get to other stories?

  • Do you a Page as one made with the Write > Write Page feature?
You can make Page template (see the link above) and include in it the template tag that will list the Pages: Template_Tags/wp_list_pages.
If you have other kind of Pages, too… I’d go by creating this parent page and all your “stories” as its children, and using the proper parameters to display only the children’s list.

That sounds confusing. I’m not sure I explained myself too well either. Let me try and clarify. I’m still a bit of a n00b if I’m honest.

My blog is located at http://www.joysandsorrows.co.uk

My WP pages are listed across the top. Any important stories surrounding the team I support I post about along with my views. What I’d like to do is create a WP page called ‘Latest News’ and import stories from other sites – only just the headlines in order for people to click through to those stories from my Latest News page.

    That make sense? πŸ™‚

I have a almost finischt PHP script that is doing what you want. The scrip makes it posible to put the latest headlines or news on another site. Is this what you are looking for?

No, I think I need it the other way around! I need to IMPORT news headlines from other sites onto my blog!

Yes, now it makes sense – though this is a completely different issue πŸ™‚
Initially I thought it was about your own stories.

To post links to other websites… you can make it manually in a Page or you can use a feedreader (if they provide feeds) and display title, excerpt whatever you want.

Any tips on how I go about doing that? I’d just like a simple WP Page with headlines from other sites that are clickable for people.

Ok, but you stil need a script to do that. The script Im working on is doing that, but it has to be placed on the site from where you want to import.

I want to import from sites such as the Official club site of the team I support and there’s no way the admin there will agree to that πŸ˜‰ Thank you for the offer though, Red-star. I hope the script is very successful.

Anyone know how to actively go about setting this up then?

    Wasn’t a solution offered above?

    Sorry!
How exactly do I go about using a Feedreader to post the headline in a page on my blog? Am I being really dense here?

You are not being dense… just not doing your homework πŸ™‚
The search function is alive and working well since yesterday. Google is also available for everybody.
Search, read, learn about the feeds, there is even a feedreader plugin (or more) to help you. Check if the sites you want to link to have a feed. If not, the whole exercise is useless; and go with the manual method.
Learn about feeds, syndication, rss (basic keywords for searches).
Displaying feeds in your blog is NOT a core functionality of WP – so we really don’t have to offer any help with it.

I’ve done searches and I know the basics about feeding. I always do basic homework before posting anywhere. I wasn’t aware that it wasn’t a core function either. Hence me coming here and asking if it was possible.

It is possible but you need a plugin – as I said above.

No help where I might find such a plug-in, huh? You Adolf!

    Thanks for your help πŸ™‚
