akismet and Comment Blacklist (13 posts)

i am using wordpress 2.0.1 and have akismet turned on. getting a lot of poker related spam which is being caught by akismet.

but the problem is that i have banned the word poker in my comment blacklist, yet these comments are being posted on the blog catched by akismet.

does it mean that akismet overrules the settings in comment blacklist? this is bad as it puts extra load on the server coz comments are posted, picked by up akismet, requring me to clean them.

one hour sees more than 500 poker related spam messages posted on one of my blogs... all are fortunately picked up by akismet.

i seriously need someone to respond to this. i have recieved as many as 2000 poker spam since i posted this topic. and wordpress is still letting them post the comment which is being picked up by akisment, despite the word being in the comment blacklist list.

I had this happen with another plugin, wp-spamassassin- it was catching most but POSTING the ones it for some reason let through instead of my admin set filters catching them and putting them in moderation. My suggestion is to turn off the plugin, and turn off pinging. Yes, you'll get a full admin, but you can just mark 'em all as spam.

Then look for another plugin. I have yet to find one that really works. I swear, it's almost just easier to let admin catch them then purge them there, only I'm sure my database is full of garbage by now.

well. the point remains, plugins should obey the main blog's settings. and akismet being shipped by default in the latest versions should do that by design! just becoz i enable the plugin, it is simply ignoring my settings in comment blocklists... :)

I agree. Plugins should not interfere with admin settings and should honor them in this type situation.

well, i am amused on whether akismet has any provision for directly deleting confirmed spams like these without waiting for 15 days. :)

I do not believe that Akismet over rules the black list, I have added words there and I wish it would just delete the comments automatically but they do all go to spam.

I'm wating for a fix on this also. If the blacklist would work, it would cut down on the spamm filter. I would rather the word beastsex be blacklisted than having to actually see the smutt show up.
I still have to go through the spamm lists just to make sure friends arent being filtered, wich still happens even though I say it's not a spamm comment.

Block (most) bots before they can even get to your site:

    Problem solved. :)

BB started blocking me from my own server and blog admin, so that went to the trash.

If BB blocks you from your own site, generally you are using some kind of "privacy" software which is overly aggressive. McAfee, for example. This sort of software *does not work* and is rather pointless. If you paid for it, remove and return it. If not, remove it.

Sometimes, using a bad web proxy will trip BB's alarms. If you didn't know you were using a web proxy, then you might want to double check, as you may have been infected with some kind of spyware or other malware.

Failing those, read this here: http://error.wordpress.com/2005/09/30/what-to-do-when-bad-behavior-blocks-you-or-your-friends/

Bad Behavior is great. I wouldn't not have it on any blog. It's just too useful.
