• Using widget 0.8.10.

Signups are not working – just get the failure message displayed.
Web server error logs do not display anything.

I have a 404 logger plugin and it has the following url recorded:
    /wp-i%3Clabel%3ELast%20Name%20:%3Cinput%20type=%22text%22%20name=%22ns_widget_mailchimp_last_name%22%20/%3E%3C/label%3E%3Cbr%20/%3E%3Cinput%20type=%22hidden%22%20name=%22ns_mc_number%22%20value=%223%22%20/%3E%3Clabel%20for=%22ns_widget_mailchimp-email-3%22%3EEmail%20Address%20:%3C/label%3E%3Cinput%20id=%22ns_widget_mailchimp-email-3%22%20type=%22text%22%20name=%22ns_widget_mailchimp_email%22%20/%3E%3Cinput%20class=%22button%22%20type=%22submit%22%20name=%22Join%20now!%22%20value=%22Join%20now!%22%20/%3E%3C/form%3E%3Cscript%3EjQuery(

    Any suggestions on debugging this?

I think that the error appears when the entered email address is already a subscriber. If this is the case then, is it possible to report that to the user?

You can try my yahoo.com email address that has the same prefix as my WordPress.org username.

I think you’re 100% correct that the widget needs to get a bit more sophisticated in its error messages. I’m trying to find a moment to do an improvement to the markup generated by the widget without breaking it for users out there already. After that, and prior to feeling ready to bless a 1.0 release, I want to address the issue around error messages. Thank you so much for your feedback!

Speaking of widget markup, I noticed that error messages cannot contain html.
I tried to add a link to the site’s contact page for when people encounter an error but I saw the a href code instead.

That behavior is intentional, as a security measure (esp. for multisite). Some users probably should be able to implement html markup in the response text, but in general, it seems like it should be restricted.
